Overview of Consultations
Infertility treatment is expensive and this information leaflet is provided in order that we can be as open and transparent with you as possible about the potential costs involved.
Fertility assessment clinic:
Prior to your first consultation it may be recommended that you attend our Fertility Assessment Clinic. At this clinic we will perform an Ovarian Assessment and Semen Analysis. These results will influence which treatment options are available to you and will be available for discussion at your initial consultation. For further information on Ovarian Assessment please click HERE.
Your first consultation:
At your first appointment we will take a detailed history from you and review any previous correspondence or any further information that you bring with you. You will be provided with the details of appropriate treatments and we will answer your questions and address any concerns you may have.
If you have not had the blood tests required by the HFEA (Hepatitis B & C, HIV) already, you could have them taken at this visit. These tests are additional to the consultation cost - so please refer to the separate price list. We will also discuss with you the other compulsory tests required, for example Rubella and cervical smear. If you have had some of these tests performed previously we can ask your GP to provide a copy of the results. This will mean that you may not need to have them done again which will reduce delays and costs.
During this first consultation, the doctor will discuss your individual treatment plan and go over the predicted cost of your treatment.
Subsequent consultations:
If you decide to proceed with treatment, we will make an appointment for you to speak to one of our nursing staff who will go over the proposed treatment plan again, answer any further questions and complete the necessary paperwork with you. At this stage you will need to complete and sign the required consent forms. You will be required to pay in full for your treatment cycle at the consents visit.
We can plan when you wish to start your treatment and make these arrangements accordingly. You will also have the opportunity to make an appointment to see Isobel O’Neill, our counsellor.
The stimulatory drugs (HMG) are usually obtained through an external pharmacy who provide all the necessary drugs, injections and needles (and means of safe disposal) directly to GCRM. At your first scan appointment you will be given a supply of your drugs and be shown self-injection technique. Please note that in common with other units, the drugs are priced separately from the treatment.
The regulatory body, the Human Fertility and Embryology Authority (HFEA) requires a fee paid to them for every cycle of a relevant treatment. This price varies between treatment options and is itemised on the price list. They apply to IVF, ICSI, FET and treatment with donor eggs or sperm.
This sheet is intended as a guide and full costs will be provided prior to treatment. Should you have any questions regarding the price list, please feel free to contact us on 0141 891 8749.
